Saleblazers, 2023    Index

You’re a humble shopkeeper trying to live a peaceful new life, finding yourself surrounded by warring factions and dangerous creatures. Will you be able to carve out a new home for yourself and your customers in this open-world survival shopkeeping simulator?

I joined Airstrafe Interactive as a narrative game designer for the Early Access launch of Saleblazers, working across the full spectrum of what it meant to make this world feel alive.

I wrote branching dialogue for a large cast of original characters across the regions in the game, each with distinct voices, motivations, and emotional arcs. I designed and implemented quest structures that gave players meaningful choices and satisfying narrative payoffs. I contributed to dweller systems across the map that governed how the town's inhabitants move through their lives. I designed shopkeeper personalities and encounter scenarios that made the world feel inhabited.

Using Pixel Crushers' dialogue systems and Lua programming, I brought the narrative directly into the game. I also worked on environmental storytelling and set dressing, finding ways to communicate character and history through the spaces players move through.
